Bicycle Fever Reshapes California’s Urban Landscapes

San Gabriel  Valley’s 626 Golden Streets
San Gabriel Valley’s 5-mile mission-to-mission 626 Golden Streets open streets event passed through Alhambra, linking Mission Street in South Pasadena with the San Gabriel Mission. May 1, 2022:

We stopped in Alhambra, midway through this open streets event. There were plenty of activities to distract families and get them off their bikes.
San Gabriel Valley cities and organizations used their open streets event to bring diverse people and interests together, in their efforts to improve the quality of life throughout the valley. Bigfoot served as mascot here.
Participants were encouraged to dismount and explore the history around San Gabriel Mission.
Each open streets event allowed bicyclists a chance to stop at museums and art centers that they might normally miss. This mural explores a complicated and debated history in the San Gabriel Valley.
San Gabriel Valley’s 626 Golden Streets event extended into South Pasadena. Some of the participants arrived by train, unloaded their bikes, and launched off into the event.
The South Pasadena Historical Museum and surrounding landscapes and street art were additional surprise discoveries for bicyclists who had previously rushed by in their cars.
