Bicycle Fever Reshapes California’s Urban Landscapes

The biannual Frogtown Artwalk invites participants to walk or ride along the path where the L.A. River flows through Elysian Valley and past Griffith Park. Folks are encouraged to stop at the emerging hipster cafes, artist studios, museums, bike shops, and other small businesses that are sprouting along a revitalized L.A. River. September 24, 2022:

Spoke Bicycle Café on the L.A. River is one of many emerging small businesses that might distract folks off the bike path in Elysian Valley.
The popular L.A. River bicycle path is crowded with pedestrians and other Frogtown Artwalk participants on this day.
The Spoke Bicycle Café on the L.A. River bike path attracts more than just bicyclists looking for parts and repairs. They offer food and occasional entertainment. Here, the shop is closed as they get ready for the band and folks line up to order and then enjoy their meals on the benches behind me.
Organizations from around L.A. have combined forces to encourage bicycle commuting. The Frogtown Artwalk seems to be the ideal event to help recruit new participants.
The Taylor Yard Bridge was built across the L.A. River for cyclists and pedestrians, connecting Elysian Valley (and the L.A. River bike path) to Cypress Park. Notice the kayakers navigating through riparian plant communities along the partially restored riverbed.
The City and County of L.A. join a host of organizations attempting to make biking more convenient, safe, and popular. Here, they offer secure bicycle parking at the Frogtown Artwalk.
